Confirmed reports on March 4, 2022, revealed that Warner Bros. was in the process of developing I Am Legend 2. The return of screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to craft the script is seen as a promising development. Initially, a sequel to I Am Legend was planned as a prequel featuring Smith, generating anticipation for several years post the original movie’s success.
Despite numerous exciting updates, I Am Legend 2 remains firmly entrenched in the pre-production stage. With a development period spanning fifteen years, the film has yet to solidify its position within Warner Bros.’ official slate. Often characterized as being stuck in “production hell,” the sequel has encountered various obstacles hindering its progress.
However, a glimmer of hope emerged in early December 2023 when Will Smith provided an encouraging update on I Am Legend 2. He hinted at the possibility of the movie advancing in the near future. The acclaimed actor conveyed his enthusiasm for the untold story elements from the original film, previously only available on home video versions. Smith even disclosed his intention to have discussions with Michael B. Jordan directly regarding the new movie.
