After the Persian Gulf War ends, three soldiers stumble upon an information about a huge cache of gold hidden near their base. A few unexpected discoveries turn the adventurous joyride into a mission.
Written and directed by David O. Russell and adapted from a story by John Ridley this is an often overlooked late 90’s gem and although it’s not based on a true story it does take inspiration from real events that occurred during the Gulf War. With a sharp script, plenty of well timed subtle humour, some great action sequences and an awesome soundtrack and accompanying score by Carter Burwell. George Clooney, Ice Cube and Mark Wahlberg are brilliant in the leads and they’re well supported by a talented ensemble cast which includes Spike Jonze, Nora Dunn, Jamie Kennedy, Cliff Curtis, Saïd Taghmaoui, Jim Gaffigan, Holt McCallany, Alia Shawcat and Judy Greer.
Although it was a box office success and received critical acclaim this is a movie that you don’t seem to hear much about these days, but it still has a large cult following and it’s still one I revisit regularly.
